Take a walk on the wild side

In a world where personal investors have thousands of funds to choose from, many follow the path of least resistance and allocate to the traditional, core assets, regions and styles. Heading off the beaten track can be unnerving or intimidating; how can you find those exciting opportunities and avoid the ‘dogs’? We’ve launched Wildcards to help with that.

Wildcards is a category of funds, investment trusts and ETFs in the TILLIT Universe that, for one reason or another, are a bit more niche or ‘off-piste’. They also tend to be higher-risk.

The world is our oyster

As a curated DIY investment platform, our Investment Committee and Fund Selection team scour the market and select what they believe to be the best in class funds, investment trusts and ETFs for our Universe. We are not tied to any particular investment house or fund provider, giving us freedom to really explore all of the options out there.

Our Fund Selection team is constantly on the lookout for new ideas and exciting investment opportunities to offer our customers.

Sometimes, they will discover a fund which could be an interesting addition to the TILLIT Universe but, for one reason or another, they feel it’s not suitable to be categorised alongside the more mainstream ideas on the platform. Typically, this is because the fund carries more risk in one form or another (we’ll come onto this shortly) and may appeal to a smaller group of investors.

Our Wildcards category allows us to bring these exciting ideas to our customers with clear signposting that these are more unusual or esoteric investment opportunities. A bit like the notices on the ski slopes that tell you ‘Danger ahead, experienced skiers only’!

The bee’s knees

We have a very high bar for adding any fund to our Universe. Wildcards are no different. We have a clear mission, which is to offer DIY investors the opportunity set that they need to build a portfolio in line with their beliefs, their goals and their world view.

To deliver this, we have an investment manifesto and a clear, stringent fund selection process. All additions to the TILLIT Universe have passed through this process and ultimately been approved by our Investment Committee, but many others have been considered and not made the cut. Whilst Wildcards are slightly unusual in terms of the investment opportunities they’re offering, you can rest assured that they’re still meeting our standards and have gone through the same due diligence process as all the other funds on the platform.

Importantly, our Investment Committee need to believe that the opportunity offered by a potential Wildcard is interesting enough to balance out the higher-risk nature of the fund. We can’t guarantee returns (we wish we could!) but we can promise that every fund has been thoroughly researched and passed our bar for what we believe to be best-in-class.

Wildcards is an exciting category of funds in the TILLIT Universe, representing what we believe to be some really interesting long-term investment opportunities. Wildcards carry more risk and will often require patience and nerves of steel, but they could be a nice addition to a well-diversified portfolio and provide a bit of flair. So what are you waiting for? Take a walk on the wild side and take a look at our Wildcards.
